Volume discount

This guide describes how to show tiered "buy more, save more" pricing on the product page.

The discount itself is created in Shopify as an automatic discount. Ronin's Volume discount block only displays the tiers and updates the quantity when a shopper selects one; it does not calculate or apply the discount. Make sure both are set up with the same products, quantities and values.

Create the discount in Shopify​

  1. On your store's Shopify admin page, from the left-side menu, select Discounts > Create discount and choose Amount off products.

  1. Fill in the discount:
    • Method: Automatic discount.
    • Discount value: Percentage or Fixed amount, and the amount.
    • Applies to: Specific products, then pick the products.
    • Minimum purchase requirements: Minimum quantity of items, and the quantity for this tier.
  2. Select Save. Repeat for each tier (for example 10% off from 2 items, 20% off from 5 items).

Show the tiers on the product page​

  1. From the left-side menu, select Sales channels > Online store > Themes.
  2. In the Current theme section, select Customize to open the Theme editor.
  3. From the page selector at the top, select Products and open the product template.
  4. Select the Product information section and select Add block > Volume discount. Each block is one tier, so add one block per discount you created and drag them into order, usually above the Buy button block.

  1. Configure each block:
    • Product list: pick the same products you selected in the admin discount. The block is hidden on products that are not in the list.
    • Discount configuration
      • Label: the tier name shown to shoppers (for example Buy 2).
      • Note: a small description shown under the label (for example Save 10% on each).
      • Quantity: the minimum quantity, matching the discount's minimum purchase requirement.
      • Discount type: Fixed amount or Percentage, matching the discount.
      • Discount value: the amount, matching the discount.
    • Highlight, Text: an optional badge on the tier (for example Most popular). Leave empty to hide it.
    • Margin: spacing above and below the tier, with desktop and mobile values.

  1. Select Save.

When a shopper selects a tier, the quantity field is set to that tier's quantity and the tier shows the discounted price for that quantity next to the original price. The actual saving is applied by Shopify in the cart and at checkout.

caution

If the values in the block and the admin discount do not match, shoppers see one price on the product page and another in the cart. Update both whenever you change a tier.

tip

Create a first tier with Quantity 1 and Discount value 0 to show the regular price as the first row of the list. The Featured product section has the same Volume discount block.
