Dark mode mapping
Dark mode lets visitors switch your store to a darker look. You decide which color scheme each scheme turns into when dark mode is on.
Settings: Theme settings → Dark mode → Dark mode mapping
How to write the mapping
Write one rule per line, in this format:
Scheme 1: Scheme 2
-
Left side: the scheme your sections normally use.
-
Right side: the scheme they switch to when dark mode is on.
The default mapping:
Scheme 1: Scheme 2
Scheme 3: Scheme 2
This means that in dark mode, everything using Scheme 1 or Scheme 3 switches to Scheme 2.
Scheme numbers
The number is the scheme's position in Theme settings → Colors, corst scheme is Scheme 1, the second is Scheme 2, and so on.
-
Renaming a scheme does not change its number.
-
Reordering, adding or deleting schemes does change the numbers. Check your mapping afterwards.
Good to know
-
Scheme 1 also controls the page background. If Scheme 1 is in your mtches too, not just the sections.
-
Schemes you don't list never change. Leave out a scheme you want to s, such as a dark footer.
-
Pick a dark scheme for the right side. Set it up in Theme settings → Colors first: a dark background with light text and buttons.
-
Your visitor's choice is remembered. Once a visitor turns dark mode on, it stays on the next time they visit from that browser.
Show the dark mode switch
The mapping only works when visitors have a way to switch it on:
-
In the theme editor, open the Floating sidebar section.
-
Check Show dark mode.
Logo and images in dark mode
-
Logo: in dark mode the theme shows your Inverse logo (Theme settings → Logo and favicon). Upload a light version there so the logo stays visible on a dark background.
-
Images: image blocks that have a dark mode image setting show that image instead while dark mode is on.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Check |
|---|---|
| Nothing changes when switching | Each line uses exactly "Scheme" + a numcheme 3: Scheme 2`. |
| The wrong colors appear | The numbers follow the order in Theme settingsnames. |
| A section stays light | Its scheme is not on the left side of any line. |
| The logo disappears in dark mode | Upload an Inverse logo. |
